Your TCP is suspended or revoked. Now what?
Guides · Updated 09-06-2026 · Not legal advice

Stop operating for hire the moment you learn of it. Running on a suspended or revoked authority is a citation, an impound risk, and a fact the Commission holds against you at reinstatement. Then work the problem in this order.
Suspended versus revoked
- Suspended means the authority still exists but is switched off. Fix the cause, ask for reinstatement, and it can come back with the same number and end date. Most suspensions come from an insurance cancellation, a lapsed workers' compensation policy, or an unfiled PUCTRA quarter.
- Revoked means the authority is gone. Some revocations can still be reinstated within a window by curing the cause and paying a reinstatement fee. Past that window you file a new application, with new fees and the wait that comes with it. The portal case will say which situation you are in.
Find the exact reason
Sign in to the CPUC TCP portal and open your carrier account. Read the case notes and every deficiency letter. The letter names the cause and, usually, what the analyst wants to see. Write down each item and its cure date. If the letter is unclear, ask through the case, so the answer is on record.

Request it and pay the fee
- Cure the trigger. Reinstate or replace the insurance policy and have the insurer re-file it with the Commission. Bring workers' comp back on file. File and pay the missing PUCTRA quarters with the penalty.
- Fix what the trigger exposed. Analysts review the whole account, not just the trigger. Remove sold vehicles from the equipment list so your insurance minimum matches your fleet. Update the terminal address. Renew any expired registration.
- Clear the DMV first if registration is involved. A registration renewal held on an insurance hold needs the insurer to report the policy to the DMV electronically. That takes several days and is invisible from your side. Ask the insurer for the date it was sent.
- Prove each cure in the case. Upload the new certificate, the payment confirmation, the registration card. Reply to every deficiency by its date, even if only to say what is pending and when.
- Ask for reinstatement and pay the fee once every item is cleared. Then watch the status.
What you cannot do while it is down
Some portal actions are blocked while the authority is not active. Adding drivers is one. Plan the order accordingly: get the authority back, then add the driver, then sign the affiliate contract that needs the driver.
Keeping it from happening again
Every trigger above had a date that was knowable in advance: the policy expiry, the quarter's file-by date, the registration month. keepmytcp exists because we lived exactly this sequence with our own company. Read why we built it, or put your PSG number in and let it watch the record for you.
Tired of tracking this by hand?
keepmytcp checks your CPUC record every night, tracks every date that can suspend you, and tells you what to do before it happens. Founder's pricing from $29 a month per carrier account.
